The CTI Years

Given Creed Taylor's label, CTI Records, was a major influence on the early stages of hip hop I thought it would be fitting to make a mix of some of the classics from the early 70s.  Even though these records are "medium rare", it doesn't mean they aren't banging.  Many tracks were omitted given they didn't piece together right, so consider this just a small flavor of what CTI has to offer.

1)   Intro
2)   Stanley Turrentine "Sister Sanctified"
3)   Joe Farrell "Upon This Rock"
4)   Bob James "Take Me To The Mardi Gras"
5)   Bob James "Westchester Lady"
6)   Grover Washington Jr. "Mister Magic"
7)   Grover Washington Jr. "Hydra"
8)   Quincy Jones "Hummin'"
9)   Stanley Turrentine "Gibraltar"
10) Deodato "Prelude To An Afternoon Of A Faun"
11) Bob James "Nautilus"
12) Bob James "Tappan Zee"
13) Grover Washington Jr. "Knucklehead"
14) Freddie Hubbard "Povo"
15) Freddie Hubbard "Mr. Clean"
16) Joe Farrell "Great Gorge"
17) Johnny Hammond "Big Sur Suite"
18) Idris Muhammed "Loran's Dance"
19) Milt Jackson "Olinga"

Mad Dukez + Fresh Kils "Gettin' Gatsby"

A great hip hop album that's has a nice variety of beats with catchy melodies and banging drums.  Highly recommended and always wonderful to support local Bay Area artists!  Grab the vinyl at the Berkeley Amoeba store...
