The CTI Years

Given Creed Taylor's label, CTI Records, was a major influence on the early stages of hip hop I thought it would be fitting to make a mix of some of the classics from the early 70s.  Even though these records are "medium rare", it doesn't mean they aren't banging.  Many tracks were omitted given they didn't piece together right, so consider this just a small flavor of what CTI has to offer.

Go Ahead Buck!

After a recent concert to see Buck 65 at Mezzanine in San Francisco I was reminded of what a clever cat he was.  It was inspiring to see a Canuck mix jazz, blues, funk, folk, etc. and make it sound hip hop.  His musical craft is quite inspiring and I took it upon myself to mix a hodgepodge of his tunes that struck a chord with me.

Inverse Discourse (A Joe Beats Compilation)

Another beat maker extraordinaire from the east coast.  Included in the mix are 62 minutes of my favorites from his Lex and Bully Records releases, as well as a few CDs and 45s.  Big-ups to "Jose Betas" for sending me the vinyl recently at the nice price.  I hope y'all dig it as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

Music to Drive to...

I've always liked driving to "house" music.  There's just something about a continuous flow of 120ish tunes that keep me going in the car.  This fact, and that recently a good friend has turned me back onto this genre, motivated me to make this mix.  Nothing fancy...but some old and new tracks that remind me of my college days driving to and from UCSB.
